On the remote island of Papa Westray, the Baker family need to pregnancy scan their 64 ewes, but their flock is running amok. They have timed lambing to happen after Mel has her baby, which is due imminently. With no hospital facilities on the island, the entire family prepare to leave for mainland Orkney. In Dumfries and Galloway, Nick and his dad Derek are in the thick of lambing and calving. Nick is exhausted from lambing his dad's traditional flock, and as night falls, a calf's life hangs in the balance. At Hillhead Farm, Ben is back to help with lambing, while eldest son Matt takes prospective clients to visit the hilltop event site in the middle of an amber weather warning. Keziah returns home in time for a visit from a group of nursery kids, who get an impromptu biology lesson.

And it's the start of showing season as they select their finest North Cheviot tups, ewes and lambs for the whole family to compete at their local show.

Ready to burn off every single calorie ordered and consumed by the diners. This ground breaking stunt for science strand Horizon is based on the latest scientific research which suggests that when we're shown the astonishing amount of exercise required to remove excess calories from our bodies, we choose to eat up to 20% less. The 495 calorie calamari starter demands a punishing hour and twelve minutes on the rowing machine. The fish and chips takes two hours and four minutes on the exercise bike to burn off. And running for an hour and nine minutes is the exercise equivalent of the chocolate brownie. Fred and Zoe also delve in to the science of calories, including why we need them and why we're collectively eating more than we're burning, a situation which has left nearly two thirds of the population overweight or obese. They examine new science, learning that our genes influence our weight not by changing how we metabolise food, but by determining how hungry we feel. They also delve in to our microbiome to discover how a healthy gut could help us burn fat. Puddings polished off, the diners are let in on the secret gym. Will the knowledge change their behaviour, as the research suggests, or leave a nasty taste in the mouth?
