In spring, the Carpathian Mountains' rarest forms of life burst free from the harshness of winter, beginning with an extraordinary moment when a mother bear emerges from hibernation. Meanwhile, in Slovakia's Tatra Mountains, a rare male capercaillie bird performs an elaborate mating ritual. In Ukraine, Ural owls are on the hunt to feed their chicks, while newly born chamois kids leap down precipitous snowfields, cheating death as they evade the soaring eagles above.
